General Secretary of Muhajir Rabita Committee Muhammad Arshad Siddiqui has demanded a 'separate province' for Muhajirs to solve their problems, particularly the law and order situation. Speaking at a press conference at the Karachi Press Club here on Tuesday, Siddiqui said establishing new provinces was necessary for a prosperous future of the country.
He said that due to lack of governance in Karachi, mismanagement was at peak and it has become imperative to establish a new province to ensure better governance. He said the people of Muhajir community were being abducted and five to 10 of them were being killed on daily basis. He termed the killings "genocide of Muhajir people". Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and authorities concerned are also silent over "the genocide of Muhajirs", he regretted.
He urged punishment to culprits involved in these killings and safety to innocent citizens. He said that it didn't come under criteria of treason and the demand for a separate province was just for Urdu-speaking people of Karachi who were in majority in the city. He gave several examples of neighbouring and developing countries where the number of provinces was much higher than Pakistan, including Afghanistan.
