A government spokesman has rejected as baseless and malafide assertions made in a section of media that the government released funds to the Intelligence Bureau (IB) for political purposes. The spokesperson has once again clarified that an amount of Rs 2.5 billion released to the Intelligence Bureau was specifically made for procurement of equipment for countering terrorism by the agency.
As for its lump sum disbursement, the spokesman said that this had to be made in view of the fact that the request from IB came in May when the budget documents had already been printed. The spokesman said the PML-N Government had closed all secret funds on June 5, 2013, as part of its policy to stop misuse of public funds. The spokesman said the PML-N Government cannot even think of using public funds for purposes other than stated as it believed in complete transparency.
