To commemorate the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, Engro organised an initiative to phase out ozone depleting substances and to raise awareness and reiterate their commitment towards an eco-efficient world. Through this initiative and related events, Engro aims to play its role in creation of an environmentally aware society for a better and brighter tomorrow. The theme for this year's celebration is "Ozone Layer Protection: The Mission Goes On."
The UN General Assembly has proclaimed September 16 as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, commemorating the date of the signing of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that deplete the Ozone layer. Speaking at the ceremony, Wajid Junejo, Head of Green Office Initiative at Engro said, "We as a company are passionate about ensuring that our policies and procedures are environmentally friendly. Over the years, Engro has become more environmentally conscious and aware of its surroundings. As a result of the Ozone Layer Campaign, the abundance of ozone depleting substances in the atmosphere is declining and the Ozone layer is expected to recover around the middle of this century. We ensure that our environmental footprint continues to demonstrate our focus on the environment and our efforts to align our corporate interests with the global leaders. On the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer 2014, we pledge to remain focused on deploying a multifaceted strategy to ensure sustainability."
