According to DCO Chiniot, Irshad Ahmed, after 1992's deluge it is the worst flood that has affected 132 villages in the three tehsils and destroyed crops over 57,546 acres of land. The calamity is profound, indeed. Rains and flooding have wrought massive destruction in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. The Kashmir occupied by India also presents a similar picture. It is heartening to note that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif seem to have appreciated the criticality of the situation. They have been telling flood-affected people that they will continue their efforts until all flood-hit families are rehabilitated and get due compensation for their losses.
The affected families have been told that they will be compensated for the losses of their houses, crops as well as cattle in the flash floods. In this regard, the PM has made it clear that the government is entrusted by the public money that will be spent only on public welfare. He is, therefore, required to live up to his words and the flood-affected people's expectations.
