Sindh Minister for Revenue and Relief Makhdoom Jameelzaman has said the possibility of high floods in Sindh has been reduced, however, the government has taken all measures and finalised preparations to face any such eventuality. He said that all districts had been issued funds while the government was in the contact of district disaster management committees.
He said the people of Sindh had sympathies with their brethren in Punjab who were undergoing sufferings of floods. He said, "The situation is on one hand we are sending gifts of mangoes to India while on other hand, it has released flood waters to us." He was talking to media after presiding over a meeting at District Nazim Secretariat here on Wednesday, which was attended by divisional commissioner and deputy commissioners of all districts of the division.
He said people living illegally in isles of the river would be removed on directives of Asif Ali Zardari and no one would be allowed to trample with natural water flows. In event of any flooding, all arrangements had also been made, he said and asked the people to join hands with the government to strengthen embankments. He asked people living in Katcha areas to migrate from there the government would provide them transports and other facilities. He said that no irrigation officer should be transferred until flood water does not pass away. To a question, he said if any officer has issued a NOC for the construction of buildings in Katcha area he would commit a crime and he must be punished. Earlier, he was given a briefing by all deputy commissioners on the preparations whom he asked to finalise the remaining arrangements.
