Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Khushbakht Shujaat Saturday said the establishment of smaller units on administrative basis is need of the hour. She said the demand is inescapable and establishment of new units has become inevitable now. "Today the people demanding these administrative units are in thousands, tomorrow they will be millions," said MQM leader.
Addressing a huge rally at Teen Talwar, Khushbakht Shujaat said if the rulers want the country to flourish, they will have to form new administrative units. She criticised the leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for passing statements opposing the establishment of new units. The MQM leader said today we have gathered to protest against the unjust distribution of resources, adding that it seems as if Sindh is not a part of PTI's manifesto.
"PTI leaders passed statements which entirely sidelined Sindh. Imran Khan should ask for an explanation from party leaders over their statements," said Khushbakht. She said if the country is to be kept intact, new provinces will have to be formed, adding that currently the issues and resources are not balanced. Khushbakht said, "We are talking in favour of the entire country and its integrity." She said what will happen and what will not; this will be decided by the people of Karachi.
The MQM leader said today the people of Karachi and the civil society is protesting against the biased statements of a few elements, which were based on enmity with Sindh. She said the metropolitan city generating 70 percent revenue of the country cannot be left high and dry. Khushbakht said we do not talk of differences on ethnic or any other basis; we want justified distribution of resources. She said demanding new provinces on administrative basis is our democratic and constitutional right.
"We rendered great sacrifices for Pakistan and we have lived with this pride, but we cannot we live on with this pride alone," said the MQM leader. She said this is the first step in order to make some people understand our demand and if they did not, this struggle can go up to any extent. Khushbakht said this massive rally shows that the people of Karachi are aware of standing for their rights. She said Pakistan was achieved after sacrifices of people. "The city that produces 75 percent of Pakistan's revenue should be given its due rights," she added. "It is neither a rally nor a political congregation or sit-in. It is a gathering of civil society," the MQM leader remarked.
