Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that Punjab government has decided to provide job opportunities to the youth of flood affected areas at local level. He said that local youth will be included in the rehabilitation work of affected districts for this purpose so that not only job opportunities could be provided to them but they could also earn livelihood for their families.
He was addressing a joint meeting of Cabinet Committee on Flood Relief and Cabinet Committee on Price Control here today. The Chief Minister also reviewed relief and rehabilitation activities in district Hafizabad through video link and issued necessary instructions.
Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that first instalment of compensation of losses will be paid to the affected families by the end of this month. He said that instructions have been issued to all concerned departments in this regard whereas third party audit of the survey of losses caused to houses, crops and cattle will be conducted. He said that the survey will be completely transparent and authentic. The Chief Minister said that monitoring committee has been constituted at provincial level to monitor all matters. He directed that the accumulated water in affected areas should be drained out by September 30. He said that Secretary Irrigation and Secretary Agriculture should ensure implementation of action plan with regard to drainage of water. He directed that a planning should be made for removing silt from affected areas.
Shahbaz Sharif said that the entire irrigation system should be restored completely by September 30. He said that the work of provision of clean drinking water to all flood-hit areas of the province should be completed within next seven days. He said that special attention should be paid to mother and childcare.
The Chief Minister said that affected roads, schools, health centers and other facilities should be restored at the earliest. He said that elected representatives and administration should work hard with devotion. Shahbaz Sharif said that he wants only results. He said that those serving the distressed brethren are eligible to remain on their posts. He warned that strict action will be taken against those officers providing wrong figures. He said that all districts should know about the launching of website at district level. He said that district website should be kept updated. He said that in case of any negligence, strict action will be taken.
The Chief Minister said that no compromise will be made on the provision of quality essential items, vegetables and fruits to the people at reasonable rates. He said that Cabinet Committee on Price Control should discharge its responsibilities efficiently for providing edibles in abundance to the people and strengthening their prices. He said that indiscriminate action should be taken against the profiteers and hoarders.
During the briefing, it was told to the Chief Minister that Irrigation Department has restored six canals while the remaining canals will soon be restored. The meeting also offered fateha for the departed soul of mother of Zaheer Abbas, former DG PDMA. Provincial Ministers Shuja Khanzada, Mujtaba Shuja Ur Rehman, Bilal Yasin, Advisor Kh. Salman Rafique, Spokesman Punjab government Zaeem Hussian Qadri, MPA Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Chief Secretary, Senior Member Board of Revenue and concerned officials attended the joint meeting whereas Federal Minister Saira Afzal Tarar, Commissioner Gujranwala, DCO Hafizabad and other concerned officials attended the meeting through video link.
