Petition against Prime Minister, Interior Minister: SHC gives more time for comments

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday gave seven days to federal law officer to file comments on a petition seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan for making alleged false statements on the floor of National Assembly. The petitioners, Moulvi Iqbal Hiader and Maqsood Ahmed moved the court requesting it to declare that Nawaz Sharif and Chaudhry Nisar Ali stand disqualified under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution for speaking lies in the national assembly.
The petitioners submitted that earlier the premier in a meeting with Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Raheel Sharif had asked latter to help resolve in political crisis, but both premier and interior ministry distanced claimed that they had asked for CoAS's arbitration.
Later, they said, ISPR issued a statement clarifying that CoAS was asked by the government to play facilitative role. The petitioners said that Sharif and Nisar had no right to retain their offices as they are disqualified under Articles 62 and 63 for speaking lies, adding that they attempted to disgrace and defame the top security institution. Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, who headed a division bench of SHC, adjourned the hearing of case till September 30 when the deputy attorney general requested him to allow some time to file comments.
