The Lahore High Court here on Monday overruled of an objection on a petition seeking disqualification of MNA Isphandyar Bhandar allegedly involved in embezzlement of public money. The Registrar office had raised an objection over the petition that the previous order of the National Accountability Court on the basis of which Bhandar was served a non-bailable warrant of arrest were not affixed with the petition.
As the proceedings commenced, the petitioner's counsel A K Dogar argued that the previous order had been annexed with the application. As this, the court overruled the objection and directed the office to fix the petition for hearing on September 30. Pakistan Inqilab Party through its counsel submitted that Isphandyar Bhandar along with other accused, including Naseem Zafar, M P Bhandar, Firozuddin A Cassim, Masud Karim, Khurram Muzaffar, M M Shahbaz and Nazir Ahmad emblazed Rs 66 million.
The National Accountability Court issued their non-bailable arrest warrants but Ishphandyar filed a criminal revision in the Sindh High Court and got the order of the accountability court suspended. He argued the criminal revision was pending still in the Sindh High Court since April 20, 2002. The petitioner argued Bhandar was sitting MNA of the ruling party but he did not meet his eligibility under Article 62 (f), 62 (2) of the Constitution. The petitioner therefore prayed to the court to declare Bhandar disqualified from being a member of parliament.
