"Pakistan stands ready to extend all possible technical assistance to the efforts aimed at strengthening Bosnia and Herzegovina, while reiterating strong support for the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity," Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry said.
Chaudhry, who represented Pakistan at separate meetings of OIC Contact Groups on Bosnia and Herzegovina and Somalia on the sidelines of 69th Session of the UN General Assembly, urged the international community to implement the pledges made for reconstruction of the flood-damaged infrastructure in the Balkan state. Pakistan, he said, had contributed US one million dollars to help Bosnia in rehabilitation work in the aftermath of the disastrous floods.
Addressing the OIC Contact Group on Somalia, the Foreign Secretary condemned the recent terrorist attacks in the African country which amply demonstrated the need to further strengthen the security situation in and around the capital, Mogadishu. Chaudhry applauded the efforts of Somali government to disrupt Al-Shabab, an affiliate of al Qaeda network, which posed threat to democratic process and security and stability in the country.
Pakistan commended OIC's efforts and commitment to addressing the political, security and humanitarian situation in Somalia through establishment of OIC Trust Fund for Somalia. Pakistan also appreciated the role of UN Security Council which had always condemned the violations of international law and called for provision of humanitarian assistance to Somalia.
Chaudhry said that Pakistan was one of the first countries to respond to the UN call for humanitarian relief for the Somali people. "Pakistan had been offering technical assistance to Somali brothers in the fields of diplomacy, banking and other important sectors," he added. He reiterated Pakistan readiness to offer training services for the Somali police and armed forces personnel.
