Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif flew into New York Wednesday afternoon to lead Pakistan's delegation to the 69th UN General Assembly session, during which he will highlight Pakistan's position on international issues and hold a series of bilateral meetings with world leaders. He will address the 193-member General Assembly on Friday, with a focus on Pakistan's policy to foster relations on the basis of mutually beneficial co-operation in South Asia.
The Prime Minister is expected to speak about the longstanding Kashmir dispute in the context of peace and stability in the region, and spell out Islamabad's policy towards peaceful relations in the region, particularly with India and Afghanistan. Accompanied by a small delegation, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be meeting his counterparts and world leaders to explore economic and energy co-operation, and to advance Islamabad's key relationships.
The Prime Minister will co-chair a UN Peacekeeping Summit along with US Vice President Joseph Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and several other world leaders. On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, the Prime Minister will attend an energy conference, to be attended by leaders of Norway and Denmark. The conference will explore ways to generate energy through non-traditional sources.
