Chief Conservator Forests Dr Muhammad Rafique has said that over 500,000 saplings have so far been planted under Monsoon Tree Plantation campaign 2014 in North Forest Zone. In a statement issued here on Wednesday he said the target of 1.5 million saplings was fixed for North zone out of which 500,000 saplings have been planted while effective measures have also been adopted to achieve the plantation target.
The campaign is in full swing in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Mianwali, Bhakar, Khushab and Sargodha districts, he added. He further said all segments of society including students, teachers and volunteers have been involved in tree plantation activities at grass root level under the directives of Punjab Minister for Forest Asif Awan. The projects have also been started to create awareness of environment friendly activities among people, he added.
