Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Friday alleged that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari were protecting each other's corruption under the Charter of Democracy (CoD) signed by the two parties in London in 2006.
Addressing the participants of his party's sit-in protest in front of the Parliament House, which entered 44 day on Friday, the PTI chief said that the party's campaign of "Go Nawaz Go" was actually aimed at "Go Nizam (system) Go". He said that their objective was to bring an end to prevailing system of injustice and status quo through the power of masses.
Referring to CoD, Imran Khan said that the two parties under the CoD promised not to harm each other and to take terms one after the other by appointing caretaker set-up, chief election commissioner and NAB chief through consensus. Imran said: "The 'London Plan' was actually aimed at protecting each other's corruption...we realised that we could not deal with them while sitting inside the Parliament and that's why we decided to take to the streets against them."
He alleged that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari's CoD was in fact a plan to take power by turns. He further said that PTI was fighting the ongoing 'war' to give future generations of the country a better Pakistan. Imran alleged that both Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari were corrupt and none of them can hold the other accountable for the corruption.
He further alleged that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah were facing corruption cases, adding that Ishaq Dar had signed affidavit against Nawaz Sharif in Hudebiya Paper Mills case. He maintained that those sitting in the Parliament were not part of democracy rather those participating in the sit-ins were the 'real nurturer' of democracy. He congratulated his workers, who according to him, set a world record by staging sit-in for 44th consecutive day.
Imran said that the scheduled public rally of PTI at historic Minar-e-Pakistan would set a history in terms of record participation of the masses where electricity bills would also be set on fire in protest against the over-billing. The PTI chief also asked the participants to take oath that they would not accept any oppression or tyranny. He said that PTI was developing a website to post the name of everyone including policemen involved in torturing innocent people. He maintained that police itself was breaking the laws by damaging public property.
He said that they can make a 'Naya Pakistan' by ensuring to justice, ending corruption, adopting austerity and improving the police system, providing better education and making it a true Islamic welfare state. "If a person does not give up hope, he cannot be defeated," he declared.
He pledged that in the "new Pakistan' he would introduce "e-government system" to eradicate corruption and bring back the $200 billion stashed in Swiss banks. He said that the salaries of judges and policemen would be increased so that there could be no chance of corruption.
He reiterated that he would remain in his container till success. The PTI chief said that as many as 0.5 million children were out of school and 'new-Pakistan' would attach utmost importance to education. He pointed out that when Asif Ali Zardari came into power every Pakistan owed Rs 35,000 debt and the amount reached to Rs 70,000 during his five-year tenure. However, the amount had now shot up to Rs 85,000 in 16 months of PML-N government.
As many as 60 percent of the country's total income goes for debt servicing while 25 percent of remaining 40 percent is spent on the armed forces and the rest is left for the masses, he added, saying that the country was heading towards a debt trap. He promised that he would collect Rs 7,000 billion revenue annually after coming into power against the current collection of Rs 2,500 billion. Khan said that the foundation of 'new Pakistan' was being laid today, adding that the nation has awakened.
