The European Union's crop monitoring unit on Monday again raised its yield forecast for this year's EU maize harvest after favourable growing conditions continued this month. The average yield in the EU maize harvest is now expected at 7.59 tonnes per hectare (t/ha), up from 7.53 t/ha forecast last month and 12.5 percent higher than in last year's crop, the MARS unit said in a monthly report. The latest estimate was also nearly 12 percent above the mean of the past five years. MARS had already increased its yield forecast last month from 7.23 t/ha in July.
