Pakistan committed to universal non-discriminatory nuclear disarmament: Aizaz
Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhary on Saturday said Pakistan remains fully committed to the goal of universal, non-discriminatory, and verifiable nuclear disarmament. He said this while addressing informal ministerial meeting in New York. The meeting was aimed to commemorate the international day for the total elimination of nuclear weapons.
The foreign secretary stated that Pakistan supports the global consensus reached on the disarmament agenda during the first special session at the UN General Assembly on disarmament in 1978, which called for general and complete disarmament under effective international control. He said Pakistan calls for commencement of negotiations on disarmament, without delay, on a comprehensive nuclear weapons convention that prohibits the development, production, testing, stockpiling, transfer and use or threat of use of nuclear weapons.
Meanwhile, addressing a press conference, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry has said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif presented Pakistan's stance at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in an impressive and persuasive manner. He said Pakistan will continue supporting political efforts for solution to the Kashmir dispute and global peace. The foreign secretary said Pakistan desires to have better relations with India on the basis of equality.
