Pakistan's Ambassador to Germany, Syed Hasan Jawed has said that the relatively unused potentials of solar and wind energy in Pakistan offer excellent opportunities to German companies to develop bilateral business activities based on competitiveness, expertise, technical know-how and product delivery in the areas of solar and wind energy.
He was addressing to the participants of a day-long conference on "Renewable Energies in Pakistan" organised by the German and Middle East Association (NUMOV) in Hamburg today. He said that Pakistan had one of the globally highest solar radiations of approximately 5, 3 KWh/sqm per day and the wind corridor between Gharo and Kete Bandar in the province of Sindh alone has the potential of producing 40,000 to 50,000 Mega Watt wind energy. Pakistan offers one of the best Investment Regime in the world to foreign investors and its geo-strategically location on the map of the world is all set to make it a hub of trade and business activities in near future, he added.
Dr Stefan Oswald, Director General, German Federal Ministry of Economic Co-operation and Development informed the participants about the various projects being carried out by his Ministry in Pakistan to conserve energy and improve the efficiency of the electrical system.
Dr Azhar Ayub, member of FPCCI Standing committee on Environment and Managing Director, Energy Generation spoke about the challenges and opportunities in the Energy Sector of Pakistan. Muhammad Ali of Fauji Foundation gave an overview of ongoing projects of Solar and wind energy in Pakistan and Dr Gerwin Kleineidam of Lahmeyer International GmbH spoke about their experience while working in the Energy Sector of Pakistan.
The conference was attended by the representatives of German Wind and Solar Energy Sector companies, Representatives of Pakistani companies working in the field of alternate energy sector, Solar and Wind Energy Experts and the representatives of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Co-operation and Development, and office of the Export Initiative Renewable Energies. It was followed by B2B meetings.
