Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan on Monday asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and former president Asif Ali Zardari to declare their actual assets; otherwise his party would move the court against them. Addressing his workers on the 46th day of dharna at 'Azadi Square' in front of the Parliament House, he also urged his supporters to send emails to Election Commission of Pakistan, asking them to make public the details of assets of all parliamentarians on its website.
"Nawaz Sharif, we'll start accountability from you. If you tried to submit wrong asset details with the election commission, we will expose you before the public," he said. It is mandatory for all parliamentarians to submit their asset details with the election commission and today (Tuesday) is the last day for it. The PTI chief said that his assets would also be available on the ECP website for public scrutiny. "You should go through my asset details. I've all the assets in my name ... I've had no assets in the names of my children," he said.
He also claimed that he would 'expose' the prime minister before the nation for submitting 'fake' details of his assets with the election commission. "Nawaz Sharif cannot speak about his source of income ... the Sharif family is one of the biggest investors in London. They pay two billion rupees in taxes in London but only a few thousand rupees in Pakistan," he said.
Khan urged people to ask politicians to declare their assets as it is right of the people to do so in a democracy. "Team of our lawyers will scrutinise asset details of Nawaz Sharif and we'll take him to court on giving fake details about his assets," he said. "Asif Zardari should also inform the nation about his assets abroad along with $60 million stashed in Swiss banks," he said. "Corruption cannot be eliminated from Pakistan until people start holding the rulers accountable," he said, adding that Pakistan cannot make progress without ending corruption and broadening the tax base.
The overseas Pakistanis have sent $14 billion remittances while the rulers have been busy in taking the money they loot to foreign countries through illegal means, he said. Criticising the prime minister, he said that Nawaz Sharif says that he has been living in his mother's home and his son pays for his expenditure. "Nawaz Sharif, if you fail to declare yours' and your children actual asset details, we will take you to the court," he said.
Khan announced that he would celebrate Eid at Azadi Square along with his family members and workers. "We will offer Eid prayers here and then celebrate it in an interesting way," he said, adding that the PTI has planned numerous colourful events for the Eid day. He also claimed that so far all his dreams have come true and he believes that his dream for a 'Naya Pakistan' would turn into reality.
