The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) conceptually agreed to hold the next general elections 2018 through electronic voting machines, said Secretary Ishtiaq Ahmed in a media briefing on Tuesday. He said the commission requires at least two years for installation of electronic voting machines for voters and elections cannot be held under the electronic machines before September 2016.
He said they had contacted IT companies and they suggested that at least two years would be required to install electronic voting machines across Pakistan. The ECP Secretary urged the government to complete the process of a legislation on the proposed use of the voting machines before December 31, 2014. The pilot projects would be launched in six months if legislation was carried out in three months, according to him.
