The executive board of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) authorised three investigations during its meeting held here on Wednesday. NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry presided the executive board meeting. The first investigation was authorized against Asfand Yar Kakar, ex-Minister for Food, Balochistan, Haseen Khan Afridi, In Charge of Provincial Reserve (PR) Center, Chaman, District Qila Abdullah in Balochistan, and others. In this case the accused persons are alleged for embezzlement of Rs 292.878 million by misappropriation of 1,00,387 wheat bags.
Second investigation was authorised against Mueen Aftab, former Chairman of Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM), Sameen Asghar, ex-Director Commercial of PSM and others for misuse of authority and procurement of iron ore at higher rates than the prevailing internal market rates thus causing a loss of Rs 188.16 million to the national exchequer.
The third investigation was authorised against officers/ officials of the Health Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and others for causing a loss of Rs 11.42 million to the national exchequer by procurement of substandard medical equipments and furniture for the DHQ Hospital, Upper Dir, on exorbitant rates. The Board authorised complaint verification against Khalid Aslam, Director General of Pakistan Council for Renewable Energy Technologies (PCRET).
In another case against Khan Muhammad Khalil, ex-Chairman of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Kohat, and others, the Board decided to close complaint verification due to lack of incriminating evidence. The executive board also closed three inquiries due to lack of incriminating evidence. These include, first against M/s Saadullah Khan & Brothers (Pvt) Ltd Lahore, second, against Abdul Latif Khan, former Chairman of Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO), and third against Abdul Rahim Kakar, former District Nazim of Quetta. The Chairman of NAB directed all officials to work swiftly on all ongoing cases and take strong action against corrupt people.
