Prime Min-ister Nawaz Sharif said the government inherited many issues like terrorism and power shortfall and asked the Ulema to play their part in making Pakistan a progressive country. Talking to a delegation of country's leading Ulema and Mashaikh here on Friday, the Prime Minister called on the Ulema to contribute towards the solidarity of Pakistan by playing their role in eliminating extremism and terrorism from the country and by promoting tolerance and inter-faith harmony.
He said the government was committed to providing social and economic justice to the people and had formed a sub-committee of the Cabinet for giving recommendations on reforms. He regretted that certain elements were trying to exploit the name of Islam and Pakistan to create unrest in the country.
Ulema and Mashaikh assured their full support to the government and its policies, and they also apprised the Prime Minister of various matters relating to their areas including those related to the Auqaf department.
