The first five-day training workshop as part of a series of a five-week-long different indigenous on campus training (IOT) workshops for Management Cadre (BPS-16 and above) ended on Saturday at the University of Sindh (SU) Jamshoro, here amidst rounds of applauses and accolades by the participants.
The IOT workshop, comprised 15 different sessions in five-day from September 30 to October 4, was planned by the SU Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) and Planning and Development (P&D) in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) under modern university governance program and capacity building of non-teaching staff. The topic of training was 'Leadership in Management'. Sajid Qayoom Memon, Director P&D, SU was the focal person of this training. As many as 27 cadre officers of Sindh University and 10 directors as well as principals of different SU affiliated colleges of Jamshoro, Kotri and Hyderabad participated in this training.
Speaking on the concluding ceremony of the 1st IOT, the former vice-chancellor of Mehran University Jamshoro Professor Dr Abdul Rehman Memon said, "Whether one student or a professional, the need of learning new trends and approaches never lose its importance. This IOT is a unique opportunity under the auspices of HEC for universities non-teaching staff to refresh their knowledge and enhance their capacity and productivity as a result of this training and this all will not only improve the capacity and efficiency of the university's officers but also help to promote good governance on campus."
He said this was first time that SU was organising training for management cadre. It was a very positive sign as management cadre never had a chance to attend such training workshops either by SU or any other university and for this credit goes to HEC and its leadership that envisaged it.
Dr Memon, on the occasion, spoke about his endeavours as well as initiatives that he had taken during the tenure of VC ship in Mehran University. He said that he never compromised any move for the betterment of his varsity once he was convinced. Quoting a meeting of all the vice chancellors with the then Governor and Chancellor of Universities in Sindh Moeen Din Hyder, he said that he was the only person among all the vice chancellors of the province to accept the proposal of the Governor for conducting a pre entry test in Mehran University for admissions because he was fully convinced that it would help university earn a good reputation and compete in the field of education. "Registrar and Deans also left me and ran away on the day of entry test but only a deputy registrar stood by me determinedly during the process; you can even move the mountains when you have conviction and want to do the things accordingly".
