KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has gave approval to introduce two new laws, "Medical and Health Institutions Ordinance 2014 and Establishment of Regional Health Authorities" aimed at to streamline the performance, service delivery and reach of Health department and medical institutions at urban, rural and regional levels.
This was decided in a meeting held at CM Secretariat on Saturday. KP CM presided over the meeting and Senior Minister for Health Shahram Khan Tarakai, Chief Secretary Amjad Ali Khan, Health Secretary Dr Aftab Akbar Durrani, MD Health Foundation Dr Umar Ayub, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Muhammad Ishfaq Khan and heads of various health and medical institutions attended the meeting. CM Khattak expressed the confidence that new laws would help to ensure check on spurious drugs in the markets and quacks in the health centres.
He said that Health Regulation Authority (HRA) has failed in achieving its targets at provincial level and even his directives were not followed in letter and spirit. He reiterated pledge of his PTI-led coalition government that it would be never accepted any way that every third drug store and eleventh doctor in our urban and rural areas emerged to be faked and play with health of the masses.
