Maria Toor meets Khattak: Government focusing full attention on promotion of sports
KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has said that PTI-led coalition government is focusing full attention on promotion of sports and other healthy activities among the youth in the province. He was talking to world ranking squash player Maria Toorpakai Wazir and assembly members at his office. Maria Toor called on Chief Minister along with her father Shamsul Qayyum and brother Taimoor Khan Wazir and discussed with him matters relating to promotion of the game in the province.
MNA Ayesha Gulalia and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Muhammad Ishfaq Khan were also present on this occasion. The chief minister said a mega scheme of the construction of sports stadiums and playgrounds at Tehsil level has been launched throughout the province whereas on its completion it would be expanded to union council, town and village levels as well.
Similarly, he said that sports tournaments and competitions at school, college, university, district and provincial level are also being streamlined. He reiterated the pledge of the government to produce such sport talents in the province and region who are gotten selected in the national teams and earn good name for the country and nation.
He assured the provincial government would leave no stone unturned to encourage sport and sportspersons and launch massive talent hunt while special tasks have been assigned to the Minister Sports and other high-ups of the department in this regard. Pervez Khattak was rejoiced to know that this talented lady player belonging to Wana area of South Wazirstan Agency besides giving fame to Fata and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at national and international level in the arena of sports also played pivotal role in furthering Pak-Canada relations.
Similarly, she did a marvellous job by giving squash training to the children of IDPs in Banu, providing rackets, uniforms, shoes, food and scholarships as well as organising charity squash tournament for IDPs at Islamabad with participation of these children. The chief minister assured that Maria Toor would be encouraged to promote squash in the province as well as federal government would be approached to patronise her for the purpose who he said, already won valuable awards and prizes at national and international level.
