COMSATS-ISESCO national workshop: 65 researchers, scientists and technicians receive training
COMSATS-ISESCO national workshop on 'Repair and Maintenance of Scientific Engineering Equipments in Universities, Research Institutions and Small Scale Industries' has successfully trained over 65 researchers, scientists and technicians from different research centres.
Two resource persons from Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR), Pakistan, Dr Muhammad Yaqub and Arif Karim conducted the training during the 10 technical sessions of the five-day workshop concluded in Karaj, says a press release issued here from the COMSATS headquarters on Thursday.
Lectures and hands-on training were imparted to the participants on repairing laboratory equipment, such as spectrophotometers; flame photometer systems; pH meters; colorimeter, laboratory balances, gas chromatographic systems; HPLC systems; thermal equipment (oven & furnace); thermal analyser; electron microscopes; atomic absorption microscope and XRF system.
The workshop provided the participants an opportunity to learn the latest repair and maintenance techniques for the upkeep of the aforementioned equipment. The participants were able to make operative some of the scientific equipment lying out of order for a long time in the laboratories of the participating institutions. The equipments that were fully repaired during the hands-on sessions included: Flame photometer, Electric Ovens Analytical Balance, pH meters, and Electrophoresis Apparatus.
The concluding ceremony of the event was attended by Acting President for International Co-operation, IROST, Dr Mahmoud Molanejad; Dr Mehdi Rajibi (Programme Officer) ISESCO Office in Tehran; and Dr Maryam Jalili, SRI, among others. Nisar Ahmad, Deputy Director (Systems) COMSATS presented a brief event report on the occasion. COMSATS' Centre of Excellence in Iran, Iranian Research Organisation for Science & Technology (IROST); Standard Research Institute (SRI), Iran; and Instructors Training Centre (ITC) of Technical and Vocational Training Organisation (TVTO), Iran, were among the local partners of the event.-PR
