Speakers at a conference on Thursday urged India to immediately stop violation of Line of Control (LoC) and water aggression against Pakistan. They called for holding dialogue to resolve all big issues between the two countries including water and Kashmir.
The conference, 'Indian water aggression and unjustified firing on Pakistani areas and silence of Pakistani rulers', was organised by Pakistan Muttahida Kissan Mahaz (PMKM).
The speakers through a joint declaration also demanded that a serving Lieutenant General of Pakistan army should also be included in Indo-Pak parleys, as they feared that the rulers were not capable enough to contest Pakistan's case on different controversial issues in an amicable way.
Presenting the joint resolution, PMKM chief Ayub Khan Mayo said that if the resolution was not implemented, lawyers, students, peasants, traders and people from all walks of life would stage a demonstration at Wagha border and also would not allow trade with India.
He hoped that Pakistan army would not take action against the protestors who would be demonstrating in favour of Pakistan and conveying a message to India. The speakers also urged the government to declare Indian High Commissioner as persona non grata and hand over him a memorandum against LoC violation and water aggression. They said that the government should also send such memorandum to international bodies highlighting Indian violations of LoC and working boundary and killing of innocent Pakistanis.
The conference urged the National Assembly, Senate, the provincial assemblies and AJK legislative assembly to unanimously pass a resolution against India. They called upon the government to immediately go for construction of water reservoirs and hydel power projects, as coal-fired or solar power projects were not a solution to energy requirements.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Admiral Tayyab Dogar (Retd) said that Pakistan had been tipped by the international bodies as a country which would be facing agricultural poverty in next few years. He said that availability of water in Pakistan was 5,000 cusecs per person at the time of independence which had reduced to 1,100 cusecs per person and might further go down to 550 cusecs in next few years. He said that at present 70 percent of Pakistani population was spending its full income on food and further shortage of water might further aggravate the situation.
He also urged the growers to adopt modern irrigation methods instead of conventional methods. Another speaker Lieutenant General Sabih uddin Bokhari stressed the need for creating unity among the people. "Our enemy is taking advantage of our divisions as it knows that we are divided on the basis of sects and other prejudices," he added.
Brigadier Nadir Mir (Retd) said that Pakistan had two big issues; one is India which was creating all the problems and the other is 'ruling elite', which was looting the country in the name of democracy. Responding to 'Go Nawaz Go' slogans by a few participants of the conference before his speech, he also suggested that instead of raising voice against one particular party or person the slogan should be 'go elite go.'
