Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) President and former Prime Minister Senator Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has held Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif responsible for the prevailing circumstances and said the sit-ins have been attained the form of public meetings and processions.
"There was an opportunity for PM Nawaz that he should not have considered Chief Minister Punjab as his brother. And if he had held inquiry against him in Model Town tragedy and secured his resignation the circumstances would not have been like as of today," Shujaat said while talking to media representatives at his residence on Tuesday.
The PML-Q leader said that family politics should be ended and for this purpose the definition of family should be clarified as to what the family means. He said there should be ban on becoming the prime minister and the chief minister for more than two terms. He added that women coming on reserved seats should be debarred from becoming a member more than once and they should not have the right to vote in the election of the prime minister and the chief minister.
Shujaat said, "When Narendra Modi became Prime Minister of India, all had asked to felicitate him then I had remarked that I would talk on seeing the mood of Modi, his mood had been seen by the entire media, we had convened a joint session of the parliament for hurling abuses, at least one-day session should have held to deliberate this aggression of India, not much had been worsened the session should be called now. We would go to the Senate for convening of the joint session, he was hopeful that other parties would also support this."
Responding to various questions, Shujaat said, "We should not indulge in the matter as to whom army supported and whom not." He said general elections in Australia and New Zealand were held after three years, Pakistan can also follow it, people get fed up in five years. He said, "We would be submitting our proposals and suggestions regarding election reforms.
He said when the government asked the army to play the role of the facilitator they did that but when the prime minister came under pressure from the parliament as to why he did so, Nawaz Sharif took a u-turn on the floor of the assembly on the issue. Sharif should have said in the parliament prior to the clarification of the army that he had done that and he stood by what he had said. Shujaat said that the committee formed under the chairmanship of Ishaq Dar would not be able to do the task, parties committee and not the parliament committee will have to be constituted, such a committee can do this work, one individual cannot solve the matters.
