Newly appointed Counsellor (Commercial and Political) Canada, Allison Stewart accompanied by Ahsan ul Haque, Trade Commissioner to Canada, visited Punjab Board of Investment & Trade (PBIT). The purpose of the visit was to introduce the new Counsellor to PBIT team and also to get more information and to increase cooperation to enhance trade and investment between the two countries.
According to the PBIT spokesperson, Lubna Pathan, Director General Projects PBIT welcomed the delegation and on this occasion, a presentation was given on PBIT's structure, its working network, services, and possible areas of collaboration between Canada and Pakistan.
Stewart in her opening remarks said that "Director Communication, PBIT gave us a good idea about the Investment Promotion agency of Punjab." She briefed the team about the imports of Canada from Pakistan. During the meeting it was also highlighted that the Canadian High Commissioner in Islamabad was trying to work jointly on the agriculture policy for Pakistan. In this connection he already had five roundtable meetings and was actively meeting the officials at government and provincial level.
Ahsan ul Haque said Canada could help Pakistan in the energy sector in hydro and thermal technology. It was also suggested by him to participate in Mining Road Show taking place in Canada in March 2015. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks and exchange of Souvenirs.
