CFA Society Pakistan (CFA Pakistan) is a member society of the CFA Institute, which is a global organisation of analysts, portfolio managers and financial professionals, and administers the prestigious Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program world-wide. Currently the Society is comprised of more than 220 members. Since its inception, it has taken a number of initiatives to promote high standards of professional and ethical standards in Pakistan's financial sector.
Many renowned personalities from the financial sector including Banks, AMC's, brokerage and securities attended the event. Ashraf Bava, President of CFA Society Pakistan presented the welcome note and gave the honour by welcoming all at the auspicious occasion of the 11th annual excellence awards of CFA Society Pakistan.
Muneer Kamal, Chairman of NBP & KSE graced the occasion as a chief guest. He also thanked the Society for its prestigious role in making the event a great success. The broader categories consisted of banking, corporate finance, investor relations and brokerage awards. The criteria and methodology behind these awards were as follows:
Banking Awards: The banks were rated on the following four criteria; profitability, efficiency, growth and solvency where a weighted average of the respective scores was used depending on the category being adjudicated.
-- Best Islamic Bank of the Year 2013 - Meezan Bank
-- Best Islamic Window of the Year 2013 - HBL Islamic Banking
-- Bank of the Year 2013 (Small Banks) - Deutsche Bank
-- Bank of the Year 2013 (Mid Size Banks) - Habib Metropolitan Bank
-- Bank of the Year 2013 (Large Banks) - MCB Bank
-- Most Stable Bank of the Year 2013 - MCB Bank
Corporate Finance Awards: These awards recognize those institutions that have made good on various deals in the financial sector over the past year based on total number of deals, total volume of transactions, complexity of deals and innovativeness in structure.
-- Corporate Finance House of the Year 2013 (Fixed Income) - Allied Bank Limited
-- Corporate Finance House of the Year 2013 (Equity and Advisory- Banks) - Allied Bank Limited
-- Corporate Finance House of the Year 2013 (Equity and Advisory - Brokerage House) - AKD Securities Limited
-- Transaction of the Year 2013 - Silk Bank Limited
Investor Relation: The evaluation was based on surveys being sent to Research departments in key buy side and sell side firms. The award is given to a firm on the basis of the level of disclosures in the company accounts, frequency of analyst briefings and timely disclosure of material developments to the investors.

Brokerage: CFA Pakistan sends letters to all the corporate brokerage houses to submit their nominations for best trader, best analyst and best brokerage house. For each category a separate questionnaire was designed to judge the participants on various criteria including; the professional competence, quality of service and ethics.
