Suspected separatist insurgents in Hub killed nine labourers on Sunday in what appeared to be an ethnically-motivated attack, officials said. The gunmen stormed a poultry farm in the early hours of Sunday in the town of Hub. They kidnapped 11 labourers, senior local administration official Fawad Soomro said, and questioned them over their ethnicities.
"They blindfolded the nine workers belonging to Punjab province and shot them while setting the two Baloch workers free," he said. He added that the freed Baloch workers made their way to a local police station to report the crime.
Akbar Harifal, another senior district administration official, confirmed the incident.
"Hub is a developing industrial town where most of the workforce comes from Karachi and from cities in Punjab province," he said.-AFP
INP adds: According to sources, all the slain were labourers belonging to Punjab, who were kidnapped along with three others on Saturday. They were working at a poultry farm in the jurisdiction of Sakran police station.
They said that all the eight men were shot dead while one was found injured with bullet injuries. The injured labourer said they belong to Muzaffargarh area of Punjab and had no enmity with anyone.
He said they were adversely affected by floods and working in Hub's poultry farm to earn livelihood for their families.
Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Malik Baloch has condemned the kilings labourers and ordered an inquiry.
