Abdul Sattar Edhi, the renowned social worker of the country here on Wednesday, inaugurated the Transplant-cum-Operation Theatre Complex, dedicated to him and Bilquis Edhi at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT). About the contribution for completion of the O T Complex at SIUT made by Edhi Trust, Edhi said this was for the people suffering from organ failure with little resources to get required treatment at any private facility due to high treatment expenditure.
Appreciative of the high quality of service provided at SIUT to the patients, bulk of whom comprised resource-less individuals, Abdul Sattar Edhi was optimistic that the O T complex would be of help to thousands of needy and ailing patients. "This complex will facilitate them to get their transplant done free and with dignity," he said.
SIUT Director, Professor Adibul Hasan Rizvi said the complex, a dedicated and purpose built facility, exclusively for performing living and deceased organ transplantation surgeries, had been built with the generous support of Edhi family. It has been named after the two humanitarians of the country Abdul Sattar Edhi and Bilquis Edhi as the spirit behind SIUT work is synonymous to the commitment of the two personalities towards their cause of service to humanity. Dr Rizvi lauded the benevolent gesture of Edhi family's support for the project and said the complex would be of immense value and benefit to the kidney failure population of the country.
"SIUT is most grateful to them providing a perpetual source of a most modern and high tech transplantation surgical facility," he said. Referring to the recent dacoity incident at the Edhi Foundation, Dr Rizvi said it reflected the pathetic and deplorable decline in societal values that even people like Edhi Sahab had also not been spared from such nefarious activities. Earlier, Professor Manzoor Hussain giving an overview of the facility said Edhi Transplant Operation Theatre Complex comprises five operating rooms, six-bedded ICU and recovery, patient holding area, and a central sterile supply department (CSSD).
