Ambassador of Denmark to Pakistan Jesper Moller Sorensen on Thursday said that Denmark focus on commerce was not only to strengthen bilateral ties but also help create maximum job opportunities for the citizens of Pakistan.
Addressing a dinner hosted by Maersk Line (a Danish company) for a Danish business delegation here at a local hotel, he said: "Strong economic ties between Denmark and Pakistan are not only good for business point of view but commercial focus also goes hand-in-hand with our policy objectives for Pakistan which is to help create jobs, growth and ultimately provide opportunities to every single citizen."
"I am excited that we have a Danish business delegation in Pakistan. A few Danish companies have been active in Pakistan for decades, and some are doing very well, but there is still significant room for improvement. The real potential for trade between our two countries is significantly higher than the current," he added.
He said that there were numbers of business and investment opportunities in various sectors including energy solutions, environmental protection, mining, livestock and dairy development in Pakistan. However, he advised the government to take concert measures to overcome the prevailing safety issues and energy challenges. "Restoration of Investment-friendly atmosphere is quite necessary for Pakistan to bring investors," he said. The ambassador said that the current trade volume between the two countries was around $450 million, which is not satisfactory, and steps are needed to be taken seriously to enhance the volume of trade to manifold as the both countries have got huge trade and investment opportunities. He said: "Denmark wants to enhance its relations with Pakistan, that's why this delegation is here for constructive talks with Pakistani business community. Denmark will strive to facilitate co-operation in areas of mutual interest."
For the first time ever, an official Danish trade delegation is visiting Pakistan to look for new business opportunities and partners. The companies represent different sectors. Some see opportunities in areas, where Pakistan faces challenges, such as energy. While the volume of trade between Denmark and Pakistan has been increasing, the potential is still significantly larger, he said.
Jens Holst-Nielsen, the Director of International Trade & Market Development at the Danish Confederation of Industries, stated that he saw this first Danish business delegation to Pakistan as a natural and a very positive development in Danish-Pakistani relations.
"Our expectations to the outcome of the visit are high and the response among Pakistani companies and authorities is a living proof of the friendly and open-minded relations that already exist between our two countries. Hopefully, this visit marks the foundation of a new era of commercial relations between Denmark and Pakistan," said Holst-Nielsen.
He also informed that the business delegation represents a broad range of Danish businesses - from heavy industry to service providers - and reflects the interest of Danish companies to engage in new relations for trade and innovation with Pakistani companies and authorities.
Participating in the trip are representatives from the following Danish companies: Alectia, dnp Denmark a/s, Falck Global Assistance, FLSmidth, Haldor Topsoe and Ramboll. Also part of the delegation is a representative of the financial institution, the Danish Investment Fund for Developing countries (IFU) and representatives from the Confederation of Danish Industry.
