Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Pervaiz Rashid on Saturday urged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan to learn from his mistakes and serve the democracy instead of derailing a democratic system.
Talking to media persons after visiting Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman who survived a suicide attack unhurt in Quetta, at his residence in Islamabad, Rashid said the anti-government sit-ins staged by PTI and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) have not only caused a huge loss to the national exchequer, but also hampered the country's economic growth.
Foreign countries have stopped pursuing investment plans in Pakistan due to the sit-ins, he said, adding that China wants to invest in energy projects, but the visit of the Chinese President had to be postponed due to sit-ins in the federal capital. He said Qatar had also investment plan for Pakistan but the visit of its head of state was also cancelled due to sit-ins. The government has chalked out a comprehensive plan to overcome the losses caused by sit-ins during the last more than two months, he maintained.
"We all learn from mistakes and try to avoid such situations in future. I hope Imran Khan will learn from his mistakes and serve democracy in future instead of derailing it, and instigating people against the government through his provocative speeches," Rashid added.
The Information Minister condemned the attack on Maulana Fazlur Rehman, saying that the nation was united against terrorism. The Minister said the armed forces are carrying out an operation successfully to eliminate of terrorism. He said they are offering great sacrifices. He said enemies of Pakistan are trying to destroy the peace in the country, but they cannot succeed in their nefarious designs; adding that the backbone of terrorists' network has been broken and now they are on the run. Praising the role of the JUI-F chief for democracy, supremacy of the constitution and parliament, Rashid hoped that the Maulana would continue to play a positive role towards peace and political stability in the country.
