Death toll has risen to 22 in the last twenty one days in the famine-hit Tharparkar as one more child died at Mithi Hospital on Saturday. More than 431 babies have died over the past eight months in Thar, which is facing drought conditions. Despite many promises made by the federal and provincial governments, the people of the area have got nothing and their condition has worsened with each passing day.
Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has taken notice about recent deaths in the area and is expected to visit drought-hit areas today (Sunday). Qaim Ali Shah will visit the hospital to inquire about the health of affected children. The desert region of Tharparkar is one of Pakistan's poorest districts, spreading over nearly 20,000 square kilometres and is home to some 1.3 million people.
