Attempt on JUI-F chief's life: institutions asked to unearth forces behind attack
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JIU-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who recently survived a suicide attack, on Sunday asked the state institutions to unearth forces that were after his life. "It was for the second time I have been targeted but the state and its institutions are yet to unearth the forces. Who are the forces? It's a question which is yet to get a response from the state and its institution," Maulana Fazl said while talking to newsmen following Prime Minister's Special Assistant Irfan Siddiqui called on him at his residence.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman survived a suicide attack on Thursday when a suicide bomber blew himself up near his car after addressing a rally in Quetta, which claimed lives of his three supporters and various others sustained injuries. The responsibility for the attack was claimed by the banned outfit Hamdullah.
"I've been talking about terror-free Pakistan and Islamic values. If I've asked some [elements] not to pick up arms [for imposing their ideas] and if I am talking about the peaceful Pakistan then let me know what wrong I am doing," he asked.
He said that he was unable to understand the provocation by some forces when he had always talked about a peaceful Pakistan, adding that he would pursue his mission.
He said that he was also attacked in the past but he had not yet been informed about the investigations conducted for both of the attacks on him.
In a veiled response to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf criticism, the JUI-F chief maintained that the Jewish lobby was involved in hatching conspiracies against Pakistan. "Whatsoever happens in the sit-in in Islamabad is part of the great game being played in the country by the Jewish lobby," he added.
Referring to an event hosted by the International Islamic University, Islamabad, related to promotion of Israeli culture, he regretted that it was unfortunate that a university which was created in the name of Islam was hosting such events in a bid to promote Jewish culture in Pakistan.
The JUI-F chief also thanked Siddiqui and all others, including the media, for expressing solidarity with him.
Speaking on the occasion, Irfan Siddiqui stressed the need for forging national unity to curb terrorism and extremism. He said the government would eliminate terrorism and extremism to ensure peace in the country.
Siddiqui expressed solidarity with the JUI-F chief and condemned the recent terrorist attack on him, in which he luckily survived.
