Four shops were gutted while lumbar worth millions of rupees turned into ashes during an inferno at the Timber Market located in Liaquatabad here on Sunday, fire department officials told APP. The fire that apparently broke out due to short circuit in one of the shops engulfed the surroundings ones. People from the close-by residential blocks, also inhabited by some of the shopkeepers, started watering the place till the fire engines arrived at the scene.
Fire fighters successfully managed to control the fire and prevented any loss of human lives, because there are a sizable number of residential buildings around one of the major timber markets in the District Central of the metropolis.
Exact assessment of the material and property loss would only be made in a day or two, said the officials.
