Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) warned that they would also name the 'terrorists' belonging to the ruling Pakistan People's Party (PPP) if the names of their workers killed extrajudicially were discussed in Sindh Assembly. MQM lawmakers strongly protested when Sindh Minister for Local Government Sharjeel Inam Memon, responding to a Call Attention Notice (CAN) of MQM MPA Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan Kamali, observed that in the past recruitments were made in local government departments without following rules and procedures.
"A notorious terrorist Farooq Dada was the driver of managing director of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB)," he added. On this MQM members strongly protested and said that the names of their party workers, who were killed extrajudicially, should not be named in the assembly. Khwaja Izharul Hassan and other MQM members said they can also name the terrorists belonging to PPP.
Upon this, PPP members also stood and both sides raised slogans against each others. Sindh Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Sikandar Mandhro introduced 13 bills in the house, which include 'The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (Sindh Administration) Bill 2013;' 'The Sindh Epidemic Diseases Bill, 2014,' 'The Sindh Eye Surgery (Restriction) Bill 2014,' 'The Sindh Tuberculosis Notification Bill 2014,' 'The Sindh Allopathic System (Prevention of misuse) Bill 2014,' 'The Sindh Arms (Amendment) Bill 2014,' 'The Sindh Mass Transit Authority Bill, 2014,' 'The Sindh Physiotherapy Council Bill, 2014,' 'The Sindh Senior Citizens Welfare Bill, 2014,' 'The Sindh Pharmacy Council Bill, 2014,' 'The Sindh Medical and Dental Council Bill, 2014,' 'The Sindh Nursing Council Bill, 2014,' and 'The Sindh Condominium Bill, 2014.'
The House unanimously passed a resolution moved by PPP lawmaker Ghazala Sayal and others over Ebola threat. The resolution states this Assembly resolves that Sindh Government takes precautionary measures to mitigate the threat of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), establish isolation wards to quarantine Ebola patients, establish Ebola screening desks at major airports, railway stations and other places and organise awareness sessions
Opposition Leader Muhammad Shahryar Khan Mahar tabled Adjournment Motion in the house to discuss the worsening law and order situation in the province, especially district Khairpur and Karachi. The government did not oppose the adjournment motion and it was decided that two hours would be allocated to discuss the motion on the next sitting after the private members day.
Syed Khalid Ahmed of MQM tabled a privilege motion regarding non-co-operation of Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhter Farooqui, which was sent to the privilege committee. Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah made a speech in the house over drought in Thar and killing of children due to malnutrition. He said that the government had already provided wheat to the people of Thar, besides taking other necessary steps. Minister for food Jam Mehtab Dahar and Livestock Minister Jam Khan Shoro also gave statements on the situation of Thar.
MQM MPA Khwaja Izharul Hassan wanted to move a resolution on Thar situation and the deaths of children due to malnutrition, but the chair did not allowed him, saying that the matter had already been discussed in the house and the CM and ministers have given statements. Later, the chair adjourned the house till Tuesday, October 28.
