The coastal belt of Sindh has been closed till November 2 through imposition of Section 144 amid the tropical cyclone, Nilofar. Section 144 has been imposed in the coastal belt of Karachi, Thatta, Sajawal and Badin to restrict the sea goers. Commissioner Karachi, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has requested Pakistan Navy, Maritime Security Agency and Coast Guards to arrange the immediate return of fishermen from the deep sea.
The commissioner has also directed concerned departments to ensure strict implementation of Section 144, banning bathing and swimming in the sea as well as making beach safety arrangements more effective. The Meteorological Department says that the Nilofar is moving at 6 KM/Hr towards the north and north-west. The tropical cyclone is expected to move towards the coastal areas of Sindh from the north-east on Wednesday.
The cyclone is expected to trigger rains and strong winds in lower parts of Sindh including Karachi from Wednesday to Friday. According to an advisory by the Met Office on its website, the cyclone is located at latitude 15.5 N and longitude 61.9 E, about 1,140 kilometre south-south-west of Karachi and 1,060 kilometre south of Gwadar. The cyclone, which started developing in the north-west Arabian Sea five to seven days ago, is expected to bring heavy rainfall to Sindh's coastal areas.
