Rich tributes were paid to the great visionary and reformer of sub-continent Sir Syed Ahmed Khan at his 197th birth anniversary, observed by Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys' Association (AMUOBA). Addressing the ceremony of Sir Syed Day, Engr Mohammed Adil Usman, President AMUOBA and Chancellor, Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology said that Sir Syed Ahmed Khan initiated Aligarh Movement to improve economic status of the Muslims and to boost their mental capability and academic level.
He wanted Muslims to get command over the scientific knowledge and open their own institutions. Our objective is to continue with the struggle to further propagate the educational perception set by Sir Syed and in persuasion of his thoughts and ideology we founded Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology and Aligarh Institute of Technology where modern facilities are available with skilled and experienced faculty.
He pointed out that Sir Syed Tower is a great achievement of Aligarians and continuation of the success and accomplishment of Sir Syed's Mission. However we require funds to complete the project and definitely need monetary support from philanthropists for this divine cause.
Speaking on the memorable occasion Engr Mohammed Adil Usman said new world, new era, new time once again demand for taking guidance from the thoughts and ideology of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. Earlier former federal minister Syed Safwanullah pointed out that Sir Syed Ahmed Khan left so much for the Muslims but what Muslims offered in return to him. Renowned author and critic Professor Sehar Ansari described Sir Syed a revolutionary personality who thought and struggled for the formation and improvement of the whole era and practically made efforts to achieve the goal.
Famous scholar Professor Dr Waqar Ahmed Rizvi said Sir Syed's risala 'Tehzeeb ul Akhlaq' brought revolution in the thoughts of Muslims of the sub-continent. Noted educationist Anwar Ahmed Zai recounted that Sir Syed forced Muslims to learn English but not to adopt their Western culture. Aligarian Arif Raza also spoke on the occasion.-PR
