The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore's constituent College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CVAS), Jhang organised an international conference on "Advances in Parasitology and Public Health Research (ICPPH-2014)." The theme of the conference was "poverty alleviation through strategic worm control.
According to the spokesperson of the UVAS the main objective of the conference was to provide a forum for the scientists, academicians, researchers, public as well as private companies, students and stakeholders (farmers) to share their knowledge and research work for the benefit of farming community. About 800 scientists, academicians, researchers, students and stakeholders from across Pakistan, the UK, Saudi Arabia, Australia and India participated in the seminar.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Talaat Naseer Pasha chaired the inaugural session while Pakistan Veterinary and Medical Council (PVMC) President Dr Arshad presided over the concluding ceremony of the conference. Principal Chenab College Zahid Khursheed Lodhi Principal of College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Professor Dr Muhammad Younus Rana were also present. Speaking on the occasion, the VC said Pakistan has been blessed by the nature with abundant resources and very visionary scientists and very hard working livestock farmers.
However, it needs commitment and determination to work according to the world demands.
He said that there was a need for collective efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in livestock. He said that although it was very difficult task to organise a conference yet this task has successfully been done due to the tireless efforts and strong determination of a young team of organisers under the supervision of Principal Professor Dr Younus Rana.
The CVAS Principal said that "Today is historical day for our institution to organise such a wonderful event for the scientific community of Pakistan and for the world. He said that Pakistan is an agricultural country and livestock is its backbone. Speaking at the concluding session, Dr Arshad said that promotion of diagnostic technology in parasitology will result in increase in livestock production and achievement of the goal of self-reliance. He stressed the need for enhancement of livestock production especially milk and meat to meet the market demands.
