Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Wednesday called for population census under the supervision of army. Speaking at an impromptu news conference from London via phone, Altaf Hussain said that a number of new problems are cropping up due to inordinate delay in carrying out population census.
"Nobody demands the formation of new administrative units unjustifiably. Sindh-One and Sindh-Two have already been created in the form of urban and rural regions," he said, adding that "if someone has objections to the new province then Sindh should be converted into Sindh-One and Sindh-Two," he suggested.
He noted that Sindhi-speaking workers of MQM are finding it difficult to leave their houses after their demand of new province. "If you don't want to give us a new province, hand over Sindh to us for 10 years. MQM will change the fate of Sindh after coming into power," he added.
"It is very unfortunate that some elements are creating hurdles in carrying out population census in the country," he said, adding that delimitations should be carried out in accordance with population. He said that local government institutions are being governed by unelected bureaucracy. He asked the PPP and MQM leaders to resolve the issues being faced by Sindh with sincerity. He said that MQM could give protection to the Sindh people of Karachi, Sukkur and other cities of the province.
