Thousands of small businesses and small industrial units have been incurring losses in the wake of prolonged power failures and unannounced loadshedding. Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) which include lathe machines, dry cleaning, battery charging , flour mills, vulcanising works and tailoring, shoe-making, plastic goods, welding and car washing units, have been facing six to eight hours power cuts daily.
Owners of MSMEs complained that K-Electric was resorting to one to three hours unannounced loadshedding after every one since beginning of Muharram. Though the entire city was in the grip of power crisis, Gulistan-e-Johar, KDA Scheme-33, Gulshan-ei-Iqbal, Safoora, University Road are the worst affected areas. They deplored that although they had lodged numerous complaints with the K-Electric, they were continuously facing prolonged power failures due to tripping of feeders, cable faults, generation faults, etc. "Whenever we lodge our complaints with the K-Electric we get a stereo-typed reply that work is under way to restore the supply," they added.
