Prosecutor Akram Sheikh pleaded on Thursday that the then army chief Pervez Musharraf's self-motivation was behind the November 3 emergency. Concluding his arguments in his rebuttal to defence's plea in the ongoing treason trial case, Akram Sheikh contended that Musharraf had admitted his personal motivation during his televised speech and added that the defence counsel had yet to raise any objections with respect to the speech.
Sheikh further argued that the Constitution of Pakistan was suspended and the sole signature on the proclamation of emergency of November 3, 2007 was that of the accused, Musharraf.
After conclusion of the prosecution arguments, defence counsel Dr Farogh Nasim commenced his arguments in reply to the rebuttal of the prosecution quoting Sections 190, 194 and 202 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) as relevant in the current matter.
During the proceedings, Justice Faisal Arab remarked that it is the sole discretion of the court to decide to summon any person in the present case.
The hearing of case was adjourned till October 31 (today).
