Apropos 'Zia's ghost needs to be exorcised' the writer has argued: "Now that some of these issues have come up for interpretation before the Supreme Court, it is time for the legislators to revisit all provisions of Articles 62 and 63 and remove the military dictator's distortions of history and other ill-intentioned qualification/disqualification conditions he put in the Constitution. The mainstream parties in Parliament must take courage in both hands and exorcise the Constitution of Zia's ghost."
Although hers is a profound argument, she must not lose sight of the fact that none of our elected representatives has the courage to make an attempt, however feeble, to exorcise an unquiet spirit. Their failure to address the Articles 62 and 63 of constitution while undertaking the wholesale revamp of country's economic and social charter through 18th Amendment is a strong case in point. The mess Zia left behind will continue to haunt us. His rule or misrule is a story that will haunt us for life.
