To pay tribute and homage to Hazarat Imam Hussain (RA) and their companions for supreme sacrifice in Karbala incident, Shia community took out mourning processions and Taziya of the 9th Muharram here in provincial capital amid tight security arrangements.
The central mourning procession was held in Hussainia Hall, on main sadder road Peshawar, which passed through its traditional routes and ended peacefully. Mourners recite Nouwah Khawani, and beat their chests. They also used self-flagellation on the occasion. Police claimed that they have arrested two suspect persons from mourning processions and recovered pistols from their possessions. The police were taken suspect persons for further interrogation.
On the occasion, the entry points of sadder bazaar in Peshawar, sealed off and heavy contingents of law enforces, have deployed to keep watch on movement of people. Close Circuit Cameras were installed at prominent places that thoroughly monitored by the law enforcers to take prompt steps in case any eventuality. Ambulance of Rescue-1122 along with private ambulances of Edhi, Al-Khidmat service, performed duties to deal with any unpleasant incident and in case of any injures during Shia mourners self-flagellations.
The Inspector General of Police, Nasir Durrani and Commissioner Peshawar, Retired Captain Munir Azam, Deputy Commissioner also visited the Saddar and reviewed the overall security arrangements. They expressed satisfaction over the security arrangements and directed the officials to further tighten security to avoid any untoward incident.
Tight security arrangements have been made for mourning processions in the provincial capital, while keeping in view the last night gruesome suicide attack near Wagah border in Lahore. Heavy contingents of police and paramilitary forces were deployed on routes of mourning processions, and entry points of Peshawar, while aerial surveillance also conducted to monitor moments of suspects people. About four districts including Peshawar declared most sensitive for 9th and 10th Muharram.
The cellular phone services also remained suspended from early mourning of (Monday) around 6:00 am, till late night in Peshawar, along with others three sensitive districts include Tank, Hangu and D.I.Khan. Curfew was imposed in Hangu, whereas the mourning processions held from different places in the city, and passed through designated routes, ended peacefully. Two control rooms also established in Peshawar city and cantonment to monitor the routes of mourning processions.
Personnel of law enforcement agencies and Shia volunteers, thoroughly search out body to those who were approaching toward the mourning processions, while walks through gates also installed on entry and exit points of procession routes and Imambargah. Deployment of police force also made at rooftop and outsiders completely banned to watch or enter the procession.
Under the unprecedented security measures, the roads in Qissa Khawani, Kohati, Chowk Yadgar, Hashtnagri, Koochi Bazaar, Peepal Mandi, Gunj, and other allied markets, blocked for all kind of traffic. The police also conducted flag marches in many areas. The moments of entry of Afghan nationals restricted to camps. Another mourning procession was taken out from Gulbahar city area, which passing through grand trunk road, would be ended in mid night of Monday and Tuesday. For the mourning procession, the G.T maiden was covered by tents and road blocked for traffic on one side, to prevent any untoward incident on the occasion.
Similarly, Shia community also held processions in districts including, Hangu, Kohat, D.I.Khan, Bannu and other parts of the province, wherein extra-ordinary security measures were taken place for them. The local administration with consent of residents and Shia leaders, devised a comprehensive plan for Hangu and Kohat, where curfew was also imposed to maintain law and order, and prevent any untoward incident on the occasion.
