Country Co-ordinator of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for Pakistan and Afghanistan, Dr Waqar Ajmal has assured the Punjab government that the Foundation will continue its co-operation regarding eradication of polio and mother & child healthcare.
Ajmal met Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, here on Monday and discussed the programme and strategy to eradicate fatal diseases like dengue and polio in the province. Advisor on Health Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Parliamentary Secretary Health Imran Nazeer, Member Provincial Assembly Nadia Aziz and Secretary Health were also present on the occasion.
The CM said that eradication of polio from the country is one of the top priorities of the government. The national action plan against polio is being implemented to provide polio-free environment to the new generation. He said that co-ordinated efforts are being made to check polio cases and co-operation by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation regarding eradication of polio and other facilities of public health is commendable. Punjab government has formed an effective monitoring and management system regarding polio, he added.
