Samsung has lately been in headlines because of its upcoming Galaxy Note 9 and also for Galaxy S10. With numerous rumors pouring in, the latest one suggests that the upcoming S10 will have a major upgrade.

Samsung was rumored to have in-display fingerprint sensor in its Galaxy Note 9, but unfortunately that won’t happen. Along with rumors of the sensor embedded in Galaxy S10, it was also said that the phone will have iris scanner, but even that is said to be slashed, although for a good reason.

A new report by a reliable Korean publication The Bell stated that the South Korean tech giant will probably remove the iris scanner, which was supposed to be a major component in its ‘Intelligent Scan’ facial unlock. This is because Samsung is likely to replace it with a perfect 3D face-scanning module – way more accurate than iris scanning and competing head-to-head with Apple’s Face ID.

Samsung’s Galaxy S10 design leaked a month after Galaxy S9’s launch

The publication claimed that Samsung has been in works with the Israeli company ‘Mantis Vision’ on the technology that is nearly done for mass production. However, in case the deadlines are missed, Samsung might go back to its iris scanner.

Apart from the 3D facial unlock, the main feature of Galaxy S10, expected to be released in 2019, will be its in-display fingerprint sensor, which was cut from the Galaxy Note 9. Other than that, the size of the phone is expected to be 5.8 inches and 6.3 inches of Galaxy S10 Plus, wrote Forbes.

One analyst said, “If fingerprint on display or facial recognition is available, subtracting iris authentication is advantageous in terms of innovation and cost reduction.”

Furthermore, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is supposed to be released in early August this year and will feature iris authentication. The in-display fingerprint was supposed to be included in the phone too, but was cancelled due to technical difficulty.
