The Punjab government has fixed the production target at 19.5 million ton for year 2015 and agriculture experts have advised growers only use approved, recommended seed varieties and fertilisers for maximum wheat production. Speaking at one-day training seminar organised for Punjab Agriculture Extension field staff on wheat production technology here at Central Cotton Research Institute today, the Multan Executive District Officer (EDO) Agriculture Shafqat Hussein Bathi said stern action would be taken against adulterated seed and fertiliser mafia.
Multan District Officer Agriculture Habib Akhtar Jillani said 1, 94, 30,000 ton of wheat was produced in Punjab last year just because of timely cultivation and use of normal fertilisers. The DO Agriculture said the period between November 10 to November 30 are favourable for sowing all wheat varieties.
The farmers can get better results and more production by sowing varieties Faisalabad-2008, Aas-11 and Punjab-11 before November 10th. The favourable sowing time for Shafaq-2006, Farid-2006 and Milat-11 is decided after November 30, he said. Wheat expert Dr Liaqat Ali asked the growers to cultivate wheat across ridges for desired better results and use fertilisers as per recommendations. Wheat expert Dr Manzoor Hussein, Deputy Director Plant Protection Dr Kashif Nadeem, Punjab Agriculture Information Asistant Director Naveed Asmat Kahlun and others were present on the occasion.
