Afghan President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai is likely to visit Pakistan next week to hold bilateral talks with civil and military leadership, informed sources said. It will be his first visit to Pakistan after he was sworn in on September 29, 2014. During his stay in Islamabad, President Ghani will hold meetings with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, President Mamnoon Hussain and the military leadership.
A formal invitation to visit Pakistan was earlier extended by Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on October 19, who paid a one-day visit to Kabul as the Prime Minister's Special Envoy. According to Foreign Office, the Adviser delivered the Prime Minister's formal invitation to President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai to visit Pakistan. President Ashraf Ghani appreciated the invitation and conveyed that he would visit Pakistan in near future. The sources said Afghan President would be accompanied by a high level Afghan delegation, which will hold bilateral talks with Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz to discuss the Pak-Afghan bilateral ties, border issues and the matters related to terrorism and extremism.
Pakistan is willing to set bilateral mechanisms for interaction at different levels in the political, security and economic realms. The talks would focus on co-operation between the two countries to deal with the common challenge of terrorism, besides strengthening economic and trade ties.
