Imran meets Siraj: JI chief warns government against giving up dialogue process to end impasse
Rejecting rumours of misunderstandings between Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), JI chief Sirajul Haq on Wednesday declared that his party stands by Imran Khan in his ongoing sit-in against status quo and the menace of corruption.
After a meeting with PTI chairman Imran Khan at the residence of JI leader Mian Aslam, Siraj warned the government that the political crisis still looming large and it must not abandon the dialogue process. "I don't know why the government takes it (political impasse) so lightly, as the crisis is yet to be resolved. There is a need to make serious efforts to overcome the stalemate," he maintained.
Siraj, along with Imran Khan, was talking to media after their meeting. JI chief said that JI has been supporting the demands made by PTI from the day-one. He said that people involved in rigging should be brought to book, adding that the two parties are on the same page on many issues. "PTI and JI are free to make their own political decisions... and share the same goal that status quo must be abolished and the menace of corruption needs to be eradicated once and for all," he added.
He criticised the prevailing political dispensation, saying it has miserably failed in addressing the problems of common man, adding the country needs immediate electoral reforms to put democracy on the right track. Speaking on the occasion, Imran Khan said that PTI and JI enjoys enough ideological harmony compared to any other political party and vowed to further broaden the horizon of working relationship.
The meeting between leaders of the two parties took place after rumours that PTI an JI have locked horns. But both Imarn and Siraj rejected the rumours, saying a particular section of media tried to create a wedge on the behest of their masters. Khan reiterated that issues relating to masses would never be resolved until a true elected government comes into power. He said that all political parties including the JI were on the same page regarding rigging in 2013 general elections.
He claimed that the ruling party is bent on covering up the rigging which he alleged took place in last year's general elections. "PML-N members are hiding behind stay orders and I would like to make it clear that we are not going to give up unless the people involved in rigging are exposed and punished," he maintained.
