Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf [PTI] chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday declared the killing of Christian couple by some religious fanatics in Lahore as failure of the state for not ensuring security to minorities in the country. Addressing PTI supporters at his anti-government sit-in which entered the 84th day, Imran Khan said: "I feel very sorry for the brutal murder of a Christian couple in the name of Islam...Islam tells us to protect human lives no matter whichever religion they belong."
He recalled glorious days of the Muslim rule across the world, adding it was their conduct that non-Muslims started embracing Islam. "Islam tells us to do justice and it was only the behaviour of Muslims the message of Islam spread across the globe in such a short span of time."
Referring to a statement of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, in which he denied that he had asked the army to play the role of a mediator between the government and the PTI to end the ongoing political impasse on the floor of the National Assembly, he deplored a nation would never be free if it had no guts to make the leader accountable.
"Someone lied at the floor of parliament. It's is a shame for all of us a leader openly lied but he has no regret," he added. The PTI chairman gave reference of Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton - two former US presidents - who had offered apology for making false statements.
Khan said that Finance Minister Ishaq Dar had given an affidavit, testifying Prime Minister Sharif's involvement in money laundering. "This is how things are moving ahead in Pakistan as the man involved in money laundering is our prime minister...either he (Sharif) or his man (Ishaq Dar) is telling lie," he flayed.
The PTI chairman started his speech with a felicitation message for the participants of sit-in, on 84th day, particularly people from Haripur who had come to join the sit-in at D-Chowk. "We will not give up and fight till the last ball and I assure that if we have the will no power of the world can defeat you," he retorted.
He said that it was because of the PTI sit-in that the government had reduced prices of petroleum products and once again renewed his demand of another Rs 8 per liter cut in prices of POL products. While justifying his demand, he said that prices in the international market had come down by 25 percent, therefore, the government adjusts prices accordingly. "The issue is to be taken up by the opposition in the assembly but the real opposition is sitting here, therefore, we demand the government to reduce prices by November 30," he added.
He ridiculed Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, saying with the Rs 9 reduction in POL prices, the price of 'Maulana Diesel has also come down by Rs 6 per litre". While talking about rigging in 2013 general elections, Khan said that the hearing of NA-122 [Lahore] case was going to resume on November 07 and the PTI was waiting for the opportunity anxiously.
National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq from the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz [PML-N] had defeated PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the NA-122 constituency in Lahore by securing 93,389 votes. Imran Khan had bagged 84,517 votes. Addressing the NA speaker, he said: "You should not hide behind the stay orders of the court," and should not be worried if you have won the elections otherwise "it would be you and the prime minister who would have to call it day".
